| | Dec 08 Interview with The Werks « Thread Started on Dec 24, 2008, 7:47pm » | |
It has been a while since an update due to being out of the country with no Internet access. However, before leaving I had the chance to sit down with the guys from a Dayton, OH band called The Werks. If you have yet to hear or see these guys, definitely check out their music or attend a show next time they are in your area. For now, atleast peep this interview to get an inside look at what they are all about and get informed of where you can find more music of theirs.
To start off, what is the name of your band, and how did it come about? The Werks came from a drunken night of debauchery.
Who is in the band? The Werks are Rob Chafin on Drums, Norman Dimitrouleas on Keyboards, Chris Houser on Guitar and Chuckie Love on Bass. We all sing as well.
Word is that you are getting a new keyboardist, who is he and whats the story behind this transition? We now have Norman Dimitrouleas, formally of The Maji, as our new keyboardist. Dave Bartoletti had to leave for personal reasons. We wish him the best.
When did you guys come together as a band? August 2005
What are some of your influences? Led Zeppelin, Phish, Eric Clapton, The Allman Brothers, Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pink Floyd, Umphrey's McGee, The Grateful Dead, and the Midwest Jam Scene.
How would you describe your sound to people that have not heard you before? We are very experimental. We try to use as many types of genres as possible, anywhere from rock to funk to bluegrass to dance to world music. We try to make every song sound completely different. Basically, we sound like a pimp, a hippie, and a mad scientist getting into a fist fight.
What music/songs do have you available now, studio and live? We have a live CD, Dig It, which was released in 2007. We are in the process of releasing our new Studio CD in February 2009.

Tell us about your new CD? Who was the producer? Our studio album is LONG overdue. Our strength is our live performance, so it is truly hard to capture that into a studio album. However, the way we recorded this, it was almost like we were doing it live. Anthony, from Papadosio, is our producer and he has done a wonderful job. We would recommend him to everyone.
Who does the behind the scenes aspect of the band? (booking, art work, publicity, ect) Rob does all of the booking and some behind the scenes work. Tom Blessing, our manager does a lot of the art work and publicity, as well as a majority of the behind the scenes work.
Who have you shared the stage with in the past? Ekoostik Hookah, Sam Bush, Railroad Earth, Particle, Papadosio, Tea Leaf Green, The Emmitt-Nershi Band, Lotus, Badfish, U-Melt, Wish You Were Here, The Macpodz, Greensky Bluegrass, BoomBox, Outformation, The Station, Freekbass, One Under, The Maji, The Recipe, The Spikedrivers, Rumpke Mountain Boys, The Ragbirds, Jam Samich, Burning River Band, Mike Perkins, Covert Operations, Boogie Matrix Mechanism, The Goods, and many more.
who was your favorite group or artists to share the stage with? Particle, Steve can shred on those keys.
Tell me a little bit about the "Barn Jam"... How did it start and how long ago? What has it become, and what do you think the future is of it? BarnJam is a charity event at Eric Suttman’s barn. He is a University of Dayton music professor and hosts a bi-annual gathering called BarnJam every spring and fall. We have performed the last 5 times, so it has kind of become our show in a sense. It’s one of the best venues to play at, that stage has a special aura about it. We might play it in the spring if we get invited back.

What is the furthest you have traveled to play a show as of now? Daytona Beach, Florida
What do you think is the biggest crowd you have played in front of as of now? Daytona Beach, Florida 2000+ people
What was your favorite venue you have played so far? House of Blues in Cleveland, so good. Newport Music Hall in Columbus on NYE was legit as well.

As far as the band goes, what are the goals for the future... short term and long term? We plan on touring extensively throughout 2009. Our main goal is the festival circuit. We are such a festival band in every way, shape, and form. We are actually in the planning stages of our own music festival sometime in 2009… Stay tuned!
Where can we get some of you music at? Right now, iTunes or our live shows. We are slowly getting rid of our live CD in anticipation for our upcoming studio album. It’s honestly like night and day when you compare the two.
